Salary: £35,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, permanent
About the Role
Are you passionate about helping young people build confidence, develop their skills and move into meaningful employment? Do you have the coaching skills, resilience and motivation to support individuals from their first steps towards work through to long-term job sustainability?
We are recruiting an Employment Advisor – Youth Employment to join a respected employability and skills organisation delivering youth employment programmes in East London.
You will manage a caseload of young people, providing tailored one-to-one employment support to help them become job-ready, secure paid employment and sustain their roles once in work.
The programme follows an intensive, structured journey, with the first four weeks focused on preparing participants for employment. You will then support them into suitable opportunities and provide ongoing in-work coaching to help them settle into their new roles and overcome any challenges.
This is a rewarding, fast-paced opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with people, building positive relationships and delivering measurable employment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Participant Engagement and Employment Planning
- Manage a caseload of young people referred to the programme, maintaining engagement and supporting consistent participation.
- Conduct initial assessments to identify participants' skills, experience, career aspirations, confidence levels and barriers to employment.
- Develop individual Employment Action Plans with clear objectives, milestones and achievable goals.
- Build positive, supportive relationships that motivate participants and encourage progression.
- Review individual progress regularly and adapt support to reflect changing needs and circumstances.
- Deliver structured, one-to-one employment coaching throughout the initial four-week preparation period.
- Support participants to develop confidence, motivation, communication skills and workplace readiness.
- Provide practical guidance on career planning, job searching, CV writing, completing applications and interview techniques.
- Help participants understand employer expectations, workplace behaviours and the skills required to succeed in employment.
- Identify skills gaps and coordinate access to appropriate training, including digital skills, employability qualifications and sector-specific courses.
- Identify and address personal or practical barriers that may prevent participants from progressing into work.
- Monitor progress against individual action plans, ensuring participants are prepared to pursue suitable employment opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with the Employer Engagement Manager and local employers to identify suitable paid employment opportunities.
- Match participants to vacancies based on their skills, experience, interests and career aspirations.
- Prepare young people for interviews, assessments, employer meetings and workplace inductions.
- Support participants throughout the recruitment process, helping them overcome barriers and build confidence.
- Ensure all required participant documentation and relevant compliance checks are completed before employment starts.
- Maintain communication with employer partners to support successful recruitment and positive job outcomes.
- Provide structured support to participants following their transition into employment, helping them adjust to their new working environment.
- Conduct daily check-ins during the initial stages of employment, progressing to weekly reviews as participants become more established.
- Monitor progress, identify emerging challenges and provide timely interventions to help prevent job loss.
- Liaise with employers and participants to address workplace concerns, performance issues and additional support needs.
- Encourage independence, confidence and the development of skills needed to sustain employment.
- Maintain accurate records of in-work support, progress reviews and employment outcomes.
- Work towards programme targets relating to participant engagement, starts, completions, paid placements and employment outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant records, action plans and case notes on internal systems.
- Ensure programme activity and participant progress are recorded in line with contractual and reporting requirements.
- Monitor caseload progress, prioritise activities effectively and meet agreed deadlines.
- Contribute to team meetings, share best practice and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.
We are looking for a proactive, empathetic and results-focused individual who can motivate young people, build trusted relationships and support them to achieve positive employment outcomes.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in employability support, employment coaching, mentoring, careers guidance, youth work or a similar people-focused role.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and progress into sustainable employment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience of managing a caseload, supporting individual action plans or working towards performance targets.
- The confidence to engage with employers and external partners, including Jobcentre Plus, training providers and community organisations.
- A practical, solution-focused approach to identifying barriers and developing tailored support.
- Resilience, flexibility and the ability to motivate participants who may face challenges in accessing work.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- An understanding of local employment opportunities and labour market trends, or the willingness to develop this knowledge.
- A commitment to supporting both successful job starts and long-term employment retention.
