The Role
The successful candidate will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level, inspiring students to read widely, think critically, and express themselves with confidence and precision. The postholder will contribute to curriculum planning, assessment, and the wider life of the College.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-differentiated lessons in English Language and Literature across KS3, GCSE, and A-Level
- Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations in line with the relevant exam board specifications (e.g. AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas)
- Set and mark work regularly, providing timely and constructive feedback to support student progress
- Track and report on student attainment and progress, contributing to department and whole-college data reviews
- Foster a love of reading and language through classroom practice and, where possible, extracurricular activities (e.g. book club, debating, school magazine)
- Contribute to the development of departmental schemes of work and resources
- Undertake pastoral responsibilities as required, which may include form tutor duties
- Uphold the College's safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Person Specification
- A good honours degree in English or a closely related subject
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (e.g. PGCE)
- Demonstrable experience teaching English at KS3, GCSE, and ideally A-Level, with strong subject knowledge of set texts and exam board specifications
- A track record of securing strong student outcomes and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students
