English Teacher - Maternity Cover

We are recruiting for a strong and dedicated Teacher of English to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract from September 2026 until July 2027.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons to students, supporting their academic progress, and contributing positively to the wider college community. This role includes full teaching responsibilities, including lesson planning, assessment, marking, and monitoring student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and effective English lessons.
  • Prepare schemes of work and lesson resources in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Assess, record, and report on student progress.
  • Mark student work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reviews and parent/carer communications where required.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and college activities as appropriate.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential.
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school or further education setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Commitment to raising achievement and supporting student development.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and mark work to a high standard.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching English Language and/or English Literature across a range of levels.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Experience working within a college environment.
