Environmental Advisor
Our client is a leading provider of engineering, construction and infrastructure services across the energy and utilities sectors. Supporting major transmission and distribution projects that are critical to the UK's energy transition, they are seeking an Environmental Advisor to provide environmental support and guidance across a portfolio of high-profile infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote environmental best practice across construction sites and support the delivery of sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits to ensure compliance with company procedures, project requirements and environmental legislation.
- Support environmental incident investigations, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Assist with the collection, analysis and reporting of environmental and sustainability performance data.
- Monitor environmental performance and identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental campaigns, improvement plans and project documentation.
- Advise site teams on environmental compliance requirements, controls and mitigation measures.
- Assist with the management of environmental permits, consents, licences and planning conditions.
- Work closely with project teams, ecologists, environmental consultants and regulatory stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate environmental records to demonstrate compliance with contractual and legal obligations.
Job Requirements
- Degree qualified in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in an Environmental Advisor position within construction, utilities, infrastructure or energy projects.
- Good understanding of environmental legislation and its practical application on construction projects.
- Knowledge of environmental risks and controls, including waste management, water management, pollution prevention, ecological protection and contaminated land.
- Experience supporting environmental permits, licences, planning conditions, Biodiversity Net Gain and Development Consent Order (DCO) requirements would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Membership of IEMA (or equivalent professional body) or working towards professional accreditation is desirable.
