  • Advise on disciplinary matters including misconduct and gross misconduct, ensuring investigations and hearings are conducted in accordance with company procedures and the principles of natural justice.
  • Manage complex grievance cases, ensuring concerns are investigated thoroughly, handled sensitively and resolved wherever possible through appropriate interventions.
  • Support performance and capability processes, providing guidance on performance improvement plans, review meetings and formal capability procedures where required.
  • Manage a varied Employee Relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence management, flexible working, and capability matters, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and company policy.
  • Lead and advise managers through complex long-term sickness absence cases, providing practical guidance on achieving appropriate and timely outcomes.
  • Manage medical capability cases from initial referral through to conclusion, ensuring a fair, consistent and legally compliant process.

  • Advise on and facilitate reasonable adjustments in line with the Equality Act 2010, working collaboratively with managers and employees to support attendance and performance where appropriate.
  • Conduct regular long-term absence reviews, ensuring appropriate contact is maintained with employees and that cases progress in a timely manner.
  • Assess the feasibility of redeployment, phased returns, workplace adjustments, and alternative roles where appropriate before medical capability decisions are made.
  • Support managers in balancing business needs with employee wellbeing, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and proportionate.
  • Ensure all absence management documentation, records, and correspondence are maintained accurately and in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Identify trends in sickness absence and provide recommendations to improve attendance management and reduce long-term absence across the business.
  • Coach and develop managers to build confidence and capability in managing attendance, wellbeing, and Employee Relations issues.
  • Work closely with Occupational Health providers, HR colleagues, payroll, and operational teams to deliver effective case management and positive employee outcomes.
  • Represent the People function in formal capability meetings, appeals, and consultation meetings where required.

Experience & Skills Required:
