About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to join a well-established and growing Civil Engineering and Infrastructure business. Working within the Pre-Construction team, you will play a key role in securing new projects and shaping future work across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering, land remediation, infrastructure and environmental improvement schemes.
This position offers the opportunity to work on both competitive tenders and negotiated projects, collaborating closely with operational, commercial and bid teams to develop accurate, commercially viable submissions.
The successful candidate will be commercially astute, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering high-quality estimates while identifying opportunities to add value throughout the tender process.
The Opportunity
The business delivers a range of regeneration, infrastructure and civil engineering projects for local authorities, housing associations, public sector organisations and private sector clients. Projects span areas including:
- Land remediation and reclamation
- Civil engineering and infrastructure works
- Highways and public realm improvements
- Environmental enhancement projects
- Parks and open spaces
- Heritage and regeneration schemes
This role offers exposure to a varied project portfolio and the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of meaningful projects that positively impact local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimates, tenders and budget cost plans.
- Build rates from first principles using technical and commercial knowledge.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries and assessments.
- Identify, evaluate and manage tender risks and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with Pre-Construction, Commercial and Operational teams.
- Produce detailed and competitive tender submissions.
- Develop and maintain key assumptions and risk registers.
- Attend and lead Tender Launches, Settlements and Handover meetings.
- Support post-award project handovers to delivery teams.
- Contribute to value engineering exercises and cost-saving initiatives.
- Produce accurate quantity take-offs where required.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in an Estimator role within Civil Engineering, Infrastructure or Groundworks.
- Strong understanding of estimating principles and tendering processes.
- Ability to produce rates from first principles.
- Experience managing subcontractor and supplier packages.
- Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Competent with estimating software and Microsoft Office packages.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
