Our client is a growing national multi-service provider delivering electrical, drainage, pumping, lighting and renewable energy solutions to commercial, industrial and public sector organisations across the UK.
As their dedicated Renewables Team continues to expand, they're looking for an experienced EV Charging Electrical Engineer to join the team and play a key role in delivering and maintaining the UK's next generation of EV charging infrastructure.
This is a hands-on, field-based position offering plenty of variety. You'll be involved in installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance and fault-finding, working on EV charging projects across the UK.
What makes this role different?
This isn't a role where you'll be doing the same installation every day.
You'll work across a variety of commercial, industrial and public sector sites, working with AC and DC charging technology, new installations and existing charging infrastructure.
You'll have the opportunity to work with leading manufacturers including Alpitronic, Kempower, Autel and ChargePoint, while developing your experience across the wider electrical and renewable energy environment.
You'll also have the support of an established multi-disciplinary team including Project Managers, Estimators, Electrical Engineers and operational support staff.
What you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for delivering EV charging projects safely, professionally and to a high standard, including:
- Installing and commissioning commercial EV charging infrastructure.
- Installing containment, cabling, distribution equipment and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Working on both AC and DC rapid charging systems.
- Testing, inspecting and commissioning installations in accordance with BS7671 and relevant industry standards.
- Carrying out planned maintenance, servicing and component replacement.
- Diagnosing electrical and equipment faults and completing reactive repairs.
- Supporting lifecycle upgrades and improvements to existing EV charging networks.
- Assisting with site surveys, technical assessments and installation planning.
- Completing test certificates, commissioning records, RAMS and handover documentation.
- Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, clients and subcontractors.
- Representing the business professionally when working on customer sites.
- Supporting wider renewable energy projects where your electrical expertise is required.
The type of person we're looking for
You could currently be working as an:
EV Charging Engineer | Electrical Engineer | Electrical Installation Engineer | EV Installation Engineer | Electrical Field Service Engineer | Commercial Electrician | Industrial Electrician | Renewables Electrical Engineer
We're particularly interested in people who have a strong commercial or industrial electrical background and hands-on experience installing and maintaining EV charging equipment.
You'll need:
- Level 3 Electrical qualification.
- ECS Gold Card.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing.
- Recognised EV Charging qualification.
- SSSTS qualification.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Proven experience with commercial/industrial electrical installations.
- Hands-on experience installing EV charging infrastructure.
- Experience testing, commissioning, maintaining and fault-finding EV charging systems.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of BS7671, electrical compliance and safe systems of work.
- A professional approach to customer service and site communication.
IPAF, PASMA and manufacturer-specific EV charging training would be advantageous.
Your EV charging experience
You'll ideally have experience working with a range of EV charging equipment and technologies.
Experience with Alpitronic, Kempower, Autel or ChargePoint would be particularly useful, alongside knowledge of:
AC charging | DC rapid charging | EV infrastructure | Electrical distribution | Containment & cabling | Charger commissioning | Software configuration | Fault diagnostics | Replacement components | Lifecycle upgrades
Experience or an interest in Solar PV, BESS or wider renewable energy technologies would also be advantageous.
Where will you be working?
This is a field-based role with nationwide travel, visiting commercial, industrial and public sector customer sites throughout the UK.
The ideal candidate could be based in or around:
Bedford | Milton Keynes | Cambridge | Northampton | Kent
Candidates from surrounding areas are also encouraged to apply.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Working hours: Monday–Friday | 07:00–16:00
Flexibility is required to support project delivery and operational requirements.
There is also a call-out rota of approximately 3 weeks per year, providing additional earning potential.
