Estimator – Highways Metalwork

Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 per annum, depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Our client is a specialist contractor delivering highways-associated metalwork and barrier installation projects. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to recruit an Estimator to join their team in Wolverhampton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator with a background in fabrication, metalwork, highways infrastructure or installation-based construction projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and scopes of work, before preparing accurate quotations and tender submissions for a range of highways-related metalwork packages.

Projects are likely to include highways barriers, vehicle restraint systems, guardrails, fencing, fabricated steelwork and associated installation works.

Duties will include measuring and pricing fabrication and installation requirements, obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, preparing cost build-ups, reviewing labour, plant and material costs, and ensuring tenders are completed accurately and returned on time.

You will work closely with directors, project managers, site teams, suppliers and clients throughout the tender process. The role will also involve identifying commercial risks and opportunities, supporting handovers to delivery teams once projects are secured, and assisting with variations or additional works where required.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an Estimator within fabrication, steelwork, metalwork, highways, civil engineering, barriers, fencing or a similar specialist contracting environment.

Experience pricing both fabrication and installation works would be highly desirable. You should be comfortable reading drawings and specifications, building up costs from first principles, obtaining supplier quotations and managing multiple enquiries at once.

Strong numerical ability, commercial awareness, attention to detail and good communication skills are essential. Confidence using Microsoft Excel and estimating software would also be beneficial.

A full UK driving licence would be advantageous due to the nature of the work and occasional project or site visits.

In return, the company offers a salary between £40,000 and £60,000 depending on experience, a permanent position within a growing specialist contractor, exposure to varied highways and infrastructure projects, and genuine long-term career progression.
