Hours: Mon-Thu - 7:30am to 16:30pm, Fri - 7:30am - 14:00pm
The role
We are looking for an experienced Toolmaker to join our Worcester tool room, manufacturing, assembling and maintaining complex tooling used in the production of aerospace and industrial gas turbine components.
The work will primarily involve ceramic core dies, wax injection dies and associated investment-casting tooling. You will work closely with tooling designers, CNC programmers and production teams, taking new tooling from manufactured components through fitting, assembly, trials and final prove-out.
This role would suit a skilled, practical toolmaker who can interpret detailed engineering drawings, work to tight tolerances and solve problems during tool assembly and commissioning.
Key responsibilities
- Manufacture, fit and assemble ceramic core dies, wax injection dies and associated tooling
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, 3D models and technical specifications
- Produce and modify precision tooling components using appropriate tool room equipment
- Accurately fit slides, inserts, cores, guide systems and mechanical components
- Carry out bench fitting, polishing, grinding, drilling and other tool making operations
- Check components and assemblies against drawings and required tolerances
- Identify and resolve assembly, alignment and functional issues
- Support tooling trials, commissioning and production prove-out
- Diagnose tooling failures and complete repairs and modifications
- Maintain existing tooling to ensure reliable production performance
- Work closely with designers and CNC programmers to improve manufacturability
- Record modifications and provide feedback for drawing and design updates
- Contribute to tool room standards, lessons learned and continuous improvement
- Maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment
You will have:
- Significant experience as a toolmaker, mould toolmaker or precision engineer
- A recognised engineering or tool making apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong bench-fitting and precision-assembly skills
- The ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings and tolerances
- Experience manufacturing, assembling and repairing complex precision tooling
- A good understanding of machining, grinding, EDM and tool making processes
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- A practical and methodical approach to problem-solving
- High standards of accuracy, workmanship and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team
