Quality Engineer / Senior QC Inspector – APQP & NPI

Salary: £40,000 – £47,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Hours: Monday–Thursday 7:00am–4:00pm, Friday 7:00am–12:00pm

The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer / Senior QC Inspector to join an established manufacturing business in Redditch.
This is a hands-on role covering quality engineering, dimensional inspection, metrology, APQP, NPI, tooling and customer quality. You will support new projects from initial trials through to production, ensuring quality processes, documentation and measurement systems are robust.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead APQP quality documentation, including Process Flow, PFMEA/FMEA and Control Plans.
- Support NPI projects from trials through to PPAP-style readiness and production.
- Produce dimensional inspection reports against engineering drawings and CAD data.
- Programme and operate CMM equipment using PC-DMIS.
- Carry out inspection using verniers, shadow graphs and other metrology equipment.
- Operate Romer arm / portable CMM scanning equipment or similar.
- Design and specify gauges and fixtures where required.
- Create and maintain gauge and inspection instructions.
- Produce tool trial reports and support tooling sign-off.
- Complete feasibility studies for new tooling and process routes.
- Liaise with customers, engineering teams, toolmakers and external suppliers.
- Lead and support 8D investigations for customer complaints.
- Carry out containment, root-cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions.
- Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions.
- Support continuous improvement and a right-first-time approach.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have previous experience in a Quality Engineering, QC or inspection role within a manufacturing environment.
You will ideally have strong practical knowledge of APQP and experience with PFMEA/FMEA, Process Flow and Control Plans. Strong dimensional inspection skills and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T are essential.
CMM programming and operation using PC-DMIS is required, together with practical experience of metrology equipment. Experience with Romer arms, portable CMMs or 3D scanning would be highly advantageous.
You should also have experience with tool trials, tooling sign-off, 8D problem-solving, root-cause analysis and corrective action. Strong communication skills are important as you will work directly with customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
Desirable Experience
Experience within injection moulding, chrome plating or other surface finishing environments would be beneficial.
Knowledge of PPAP, Cp/Cpk, GR&R and quality management systems such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949 or ISO 13485 would also be advantageous.

You will be calm and methodical when solving problems, confident working with customers and suppliers, and comfortable taking ownership of quality issues and driving actions through to completion.
