We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fabricator / Welder to join a well-established and growing inland waterways boatyard based in Warwickshire.
This is a varied, hands-on position involving fabrication and welding work on marine vessels. You will also support the engineering team with basic mechanical work and general boatyard projects.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating and welding a variety of steel components for marine vessels.
- Carrying out hull repairs, modifications and general steelwork.
- Manufacturing and repairing hatches, lockers, rudders and other fabricated components.
- Completing MIG welding work to a consistently high standard.
- Supporting basic mechanical fitting, repairs and maintenance when required.
- Working alongside experienced engineers on boat repair and maintenance projects.
- Reading and working accurately from technical drawings.
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship and health and safety.
- Occasionally travelling to customer sites within the local area.
- Working occasional weekends when required.
Full training will be provided on the mechanical aspects of the position, so previous marine engineering experience is not essential.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Previous experience within fabrication and MIG welding is essential.
- ARC welding experience would be advantageous.
- TIG welding experience is desirable but not essential.
- Good practical and mechanical skills.
- Able to read technical drawings and work accurately.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Pride in producing high-quality workmanship.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends.
Previous marine or boatyard experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from candidates with experience in structural steel, heavy plant, agriculture, automotive or other relevant engineering environments.
