Finance Apprentice

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Salary: £26,016, progressing to £27,274 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Full-time, permanent

Ready to build a career in finance while working towards a recognised qualification? Teach Now is recruiting a motivated Finance Apprentice to join a supportive Capital and Treasury Team in Hertfordshire.

You will gain practical experience alongside experienced finance professionals, supporting work that helps fund buildings, infrastructure and services for local communities. The team also manages the councils cash flow, investments and borrowing, giving you exposure to a varied area of public-sector finance.

Your responsibilities


• Support daily finance administration, including setting up finance codes and processing journals.
• Prepare reports, maintain accurate financial data and respond to colleagues queries.
• Help monitor project spending, comparing actual costs against budgets.
• Assist with forecasts and financial information used to support decisions.
• Prepare working papers and gather information for year-end accounts and audits.

What were looking for


• Confident Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Strong numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Good organisation and the ability to manage competing tasks.
• A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for developing a finance career.

Previous finance or administration experience is helpful but not essential.

Training and eligibility

You will receive funded support to complete the Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship, with potential to progress to a Level 4 qualification.

The vacancy specifies the following eligibility requirements:

• Level 2 English and Maths, such as GCSE grades 4–9/A*–C or equivalent.
• UK residency for at least three years.
• No existing Level 3 or higher qualification in a finance-related subject.
