Financial Controller in Northamptonshire

Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties are working with a growing and commercially focused FMCG business in Northampton to appoint a high-calibre Financial Controller.

This is a broad and influential role for an ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified accountant who enjoys operating close to the commercial and operational side of a business.

As Financial Controller, you will lead the finance function, ensuring strong financial control, accurate reporting and commercially focused analysis to support continued growth.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the month-end and year-end close process
• Produce monthly management accounts and financial analysis
• Own budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
• Provide commercial insight into sales, margins, costs and profitability
• Partner with Operations, Sales and Procurement
• Oversee cash flow, working capital and balance sheet management
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls and processes
• Monitor product costing, gross margins and manufacturing variances
• Support stock and inventory reporting
• Manage statutory accounts and external audit requirements
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements
• Improve finance systems, processes and reporting
• Lead, develop and motivate the finance team
• Provide financial support and challenge to the senior leadership team

You will ideally have:

• ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or equivalent
• Experience within FMCG, food, consumer goods or manufacturing
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience
• Experience of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
• Good understanding of product costing, margins and stock/inventory
• Strong financial controls and balance-sheet management experience
• Experience managing and developing a finance team
• Excellent Excel and ERP/system skills
• Strong commercial awareness with the confidence to challenge and influence
• A hands-on, proactive and improvement-focused approach
• Excellent communication skills
