A leading multidisciplinary built environment consultancy is looking to appoint a Fire Engineer to join their established fire engineering team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for a Fire Engineer who wants to work on complex, high-profile projects while benefiting from the support of a wider technical consultancy.
The successful Fire Engineer will provide specialist fire engineering advice across a broad range of sectors, working closely with architects, developers, contractors and other technical disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
The Fire Engineer's Role
The Fire Engineer will be responsible for:
- Developing fire strategies for new-build and refurbishment projects
- Providing technical advice on fire safety design and Building Regulations
- Reviewing architectural, structural and MEP information
- Supporting projects through design, construction and handover stages
- Advising on means of escape, compartmentation, smoke control and fire resistance
- Attending design team meetings and liaising directly with clients
- Supporting Building Safety Act and Gateway-related requirements where applicable
- Undertaking site inspections and technical reviews
- Working across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, education and mixed-use developments
The Fire Engineer
The successful Fire Engineer will ideally have:
- A degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience working within a consultancy environment
- Strong knowledge of Approved Document B, BS 9991 and BS 9999
- Understanding of UK Building Regulations and current fire safety legislation
- Experience producing fire strategies and technical reports
- Membership of the IFE or another relevant professional body
- Progress towards Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
