Fire Safety Surveyor Location: Farringdon, London (hybrid working available) Salary: To £56,260, dependent on experience. Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Braxfield Recruitment is delighted to be working exclusively with a leading housing association to recruit a Fire Safety Surveyor to join their Asset and Sustainability Directorate.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced fire/building surveyor to play a key role in keeping residents safe, overseeing fire risk assessment works and ensuring properties are maintained to the highest possible standards.
The Role
As Fire Safety Surveyor, you'll report to the Fire Safety Contract Manager and take ownership of fire risk assessment works, ensuring all designated tasks are actioned correctly and within prescribed timescales. You'll work closely with Fire Authorities, contractors, and a wide range of internal teams to ensure statutory and regulatory requirements are met and residents receive a consistently high standard of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage designated fire risk assessment tasks, ensuring completion within prescribed timescales and reporting progress to the Head of Fire Safety Delivery
- Liaise with Fire Authorities, ensuring Notice of Deficiency passive actions are completed on time
- Analyse building defects, provide remedial proposals, and prepare up-to-date specifications for repairs
- Obtain quotations and estimates in line with procurement procedures
- Maintain high standards of communication and consultation with all stakeholders
- Monitor budgets and value for money, reporting on performance
- Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, processes and quality control
- Provide technical advice to colleagues, including desktop reviews of drawings and specifications for new developments
- Monitor contractor and consultant performance, reporting to the Fire Safety Contract Manager
- Carry out post-inspection/quality control checks, pursuing redress where needed
- Carry out H&S spot checks, ensuring contractors comply with risk assessments and method statements
- Manage complaints through to resolution, providing written responses
- Maintain accurate records of site progress, variations, snagging and health & safety, keeping Riskhub, Orchard, APEX and CRM systems updated
- Encourage customer use of self-service portals and mobile apps
About You
- Demonstrable experience as a fire/building surveyor in a maintenance environment, carrying out pre and post inspections
- Fire qualification (NEBOSH Fire or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Experience working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts
- Ability to produce detailed specifications of work
- Competent knowledge of relevant codes of practice, building regulations, and health & safety legislation
- In-depth knowledge of construction, design and fire/construction-related defects
- Knowledge of procurement law, contract forms and contract management
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- Good IT skills, including Excel and Word, and confidence using mobile technology
- Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle (essential)
- Willingness to undergo DBS Safeguarding clearance
Desirable
- Membership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or a similar professional body
- Experience working with a direct labour force
