Frontend Developer – Met Office

Exeter | Hybrid Working – 1 Day Per Week in Office

Contract: 6+ months ongoing
Rate: £550–£600 per day

Fox Morris Group are currently recruiting for an experienced Frontend Developer to join the Met Office on a long-term contract based in Exeter.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced developer with strong React, Next.js and TypeScript expertise to work on modern digital services within a mixed Azure and AWS cloud environment.

About the Role

You will work across the full software development lifecycle, from initial requirements and design through development, testing and deployment.

The role will involve building responsive and accessible user interfaces, integrating with internally developed APIs and platforms, and collaborating closely with product, design and technical teams to deliver high-quality digital services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop responsive, accessible and high-quality applications using Next.js, React and TypeScript.
  • Build frontend user experiences backed by internal APIs and search indexes.
  • Work within a mixed Azure and AWS cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI, product and technical teams to create intuitive user experiences.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing and debugging.
  • Maintain and enhance existing applications.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to defining project requirements.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing.
  • Work within an Agile delivery environment.
  • Apply modern frontend development standards and best practices.

  • UX/UI design principles and user-centred development.
  • Automated testing and debugging.
  • CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.

  • Working collaboratively with product, design and backend development teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with PyGeoAPI.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence.
  • Previous experience delivering digital services within Government or the wider public sector.
