The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and resilient Maths and English Tutor to provide 1:1 educational support to a Year 11 learner currently living in a residential care setting in Cumbria.
The learner has been out of education for a period of time and requires a tutor who can help re-engage them with learning, build trust, and support progress towards GCSE-level outcomes in Maths and English.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a young person's educational journey while working within a multi-agency support framework.
Student Profile
The learner:
- Is currently in Year 11.
- Has been placed in residential care outside their home borough.
- Has experienced significant disruption to education.
- Requires structured, patient, and consistent support to re-engage with learning.
- Is known to mental health services and requires a tutor who can work sensitively alongside existing professional support.
- May present with behaviours that can be challenging and will require clear boundaries, strong behaviour-management skills, and a trauma-informed approach.
The Ideal Tutor
We are seeking a tutor who has:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- Experience delivering GCSE Maths and/or English.
- Confidence working on a 1:1 basis in alternative provision, care, or community settings.
- A calm, resilient, and professional manner.
- The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant teaching, tutoring, or educational qualification.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience supporting vulnerable learners.
- Strong safeguarding awareness.
- Right to work in the UK.
