Skilled Operative – General Groundworks & Civils

Location: Stoke-on-Trent (T5 6EG)
Rate: £210 p/d UMB

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a Skilled Operative to join a busy civils project at the Barhale site in Stoke-on-Trent.

The successful candidate will have solid experience in general groundworks and civil engineering, with some experience of pipe laying and pipe fitting. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is comfortable carrying out a variety of groundwork duties and supporting the wider site team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out a range of general groundworks duties across the site.
• Assist with excavation, trenching and preparing work areas.
• Carry out backfilling, compaction and ground reinstatement.
• Prepare and level ground for construction and civils works.
• Assist with concrete works, kerbing, drainage and other associated civils activities.
• Use hand tools and small plant safely and effectively.
• Assist with the installation and fitting of underground pipework where required.
• Carry out basic pipe laying and pipe fitting duties as part of wider civils works.
• Work safely around existing underground services and utilities.
• Assist skilled trades and other site operatives as required.
• Keep work areas clean, tidy and free from hazards.
• Follow site instructions, RAMS and health and safety procedures.
• Work as part of a team to ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard.

Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in general groundworks and civils.
• Experience with excavation, trenching, backfilling and reinstatement.
• Knowledge of general construction and civil engineering site practices.
• Some experience with pipe laying and pipe fitting.
• CPCS or CSCS certification.
• Confined Space ticket/training would be advantageous.
• Clean Water Card would be desirable.
• A good understanding of health and safety on construction sites.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
