The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Multi-Trade Operative to join their team, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, refurbishment, repair and installation works across a range of client sites.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to an experienced all-round tradesperson with skills across carpentry, general building, painting and decorating, minor plumbing and external maintenance.
The successful candidate will work across commercial, industrial and public sector environments, supporting both planned maintenance programmes and larger project teams where required.
Regular travel across the South Central region is an essential part of the role, with occasional overnight stays depending on project location.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
Undertake planned and reactive maintenance works
Complete refurbishment and repair works within occupied and unoccupied properties
Read and interpret drawings, specifications and work instructions
Ensure works are completed in accordance with relevant regulations and site procedures
Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail
Complete job sheets, reports and timesheets accurately
Liaise professionally with clients, site teams and building users
Ensure work areas are clean, safe and left in a satisfactory condition
Carpentry & Joinery
Door installation and repairs
Ironmongery replacement and adjustment
Installation and repair of skirting boards and architraves
Internal joinery works
Kitchen and furniture installation
Stud wall construction and repairs
General Building & Fabric
General building repairs and maintenance
Minor brickwork and blockwork
Patch plastering and making good
Ceiling repairs
Flooring repairs and installation
General fabric maintenance
Painting & Decorating
Surface preparation
Internal and external painting
Minor wallpaper repairs
Application of protective coatings
General decorating and finishing works
Minor Plumbing
Replacement of taps, toilets and sanitaryware
Minor pipework repairs
Leak investigation
Basic drainage maintenance
External Works & Groundworks
Fence and gate repairs
Paving and slab repairs
Minor drainage works
Concrete repairs
General external maintenance
Passive Fire Protection – Desirable
Experience in the following would be advantageous:
Fire door maintenance and adjustments
Minor fire stopping repairs
Fire door and passive fire protection inspections
Health & Safety Responsibilities
Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and site procedures
Complete risk assessments and dynamic risk assessments where required
Wear and maintain appropriate PPE
Report hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in a safe condition
Follow RAMS and permit-to-work procedures where applicable
Maintain a safe working environment for colleagues, clients and building users
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a recognised construction trade
CSCS Card
Full UK Driving Licence
Experience
Minimum 3 years' experience within construction, maintenance or facilities management
Proven experience working across multiple trades
Experience within commercial, industrial or public sector environments
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
Strong practical knowledge of general building maintenance
Knowledge & Skills
Good understanding of building maintenance techniques
Knowledge of construction materials and methods
Good understanding of health and safety requirements
Competent and safe use of hand and power tools
Strong problem-solving and practical skills
Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
Desirable Qualifications & Experience

First Aid at Work
Fire Door Inspection qualification
Confined Space training
Existing BPSS, SC, EL1 or equivalent security clearance
Previous experience working on secure, MOD, public sector or other controlled sites

Working Hours & Travel:
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Overtime may be available
Occasional weekend working may be required
