Health & Safety Lead Auditor

Location: Hybrid - Home & Field Based
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm)

The Role

The Health & Safety Lead Auditor will join the Compliance team and report to the QEHS Manager. This role is responsible for providing independent assurance that the organisation's Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) remains effective, compliant and continually improves in line with ISO 45001 standards.

The successful candidate will lead internal audits, support regulatory compliance, investigate health and safety incidents and work collaboratively with stakeholders to embed a proactive health and safety culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

The Health & Safety Lead Auditor will:

  • Lead and deliver internal audits in accordance with ISO 45001 and the organisation's audit programme.
  • Assess compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk assessments, control measures and operational practices across multiple sites.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based audit reports detailing findings, risks, non-conformities and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor corrective and preventative actions through to completion, supporting departments in implementing effective improvements.
  • Support and lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Analyse audit findings, incident data and performance trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the maintenance and development of health and safety policies, procedures and governance processes.
  • Assist with external audits, inspections and ISO certification activities.
  • Build positive working relationships with managers, employees and contractors to promote a strong health and safety culture.
  • Deliver health and safety training, toolbox talks and safety briefings where required.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to members of the audit team, supporting their ongoing development.

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification (essential).
  • A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience leading internal Health & Safety audits.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 45001 and UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience of incident investigation and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Excellent analytical, investigative and report-writing skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills with a pragmatic, objective and detail-focused approach.
  • Experience working within regulated, operational or multi-site environments.
