Handyman / Maintenance Technician in Marlow

Location: Marlow, Buckinghamshire
Salary: £30,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Vanta Staffing are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and proactive Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician to join their team in Marlow.

This is a varied, hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys practical problem-solving, takes pride in their work and is confident working across both buildings and external grounds.

The successful candidate will take day-to-day responsibility for the general maintenance, upkeep and presentation of the site. You will be involved in everything from minor repairs and planned maintenance through to grounds upkeep, contractor support and responding to reactive maintenance issues.

As a Building & Grounds Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out general building maintenance and minor repairs.

• Undertaking minor plumbing, carpentry, joinery, painting and decorating tasks where competent.

• Repairing and replacing basic fixtures, fittings, handles, locks, shelving and furniture.

• Investigating straightforward building faults and resolving or escalating as appropriate.

• Carrying out grass cutting, edging, hedge trimming, strimming and general grounds maintenance.

• Maintaining planted and landscaped areas.

• Keeping entrances, pathways, car parks and external areas clean, safe and presentable.

• Clearing accessible drains and gullies where safe to do so.

• Supporting seasonal grounds maintenance and adverse-weather preparations.

• Carrying out routine building and planned maintenance checks following appropriate training.

• Supporting water hygiene checks, temperature monitoring and basic plant-room inspections.

• Completing visual checks of fire doors, drainage, gutters, external areas and general building condition.

• Responding to reactive maintenance issues including leaks, drainage problems and minor building damage.

• Making areas safe where an immediate repair cannot be completed.

• Supporting contractors while they are working on site.

• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and providing updates on completed works.

• Identifying potential issues before they develop into larger maintenance problems.

• Maintaining tools, equipment and maintenance stock.

• Assisting with deliveries, furniture moves and general facilities support when required.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, property maintenance, grounds maintenance or a similar practical role.

You will need:

• Strong general DIY and maintenance skills.

• Experience using common hand and power tools safely.

• Confidence working both indoors and outdoors.

• Good practical problem-solving abilities.

• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.

• A proactive and reliable approach.

• Good communication skills and attention to detail.

• The ability to recognise when specialist assistance is required.

• Confidence using a phone, tablet or computer to record maintenance tasks.

• A professional approach when dealing with employees, tenants, contractors and visitors.

The role is physically active and involves working outdoors throughout the year.

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

• Basic plumbing

• Carpentry or joinery

• Commercial building or facilities maintenance

• Grounds maintenance

• Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

• Legionella or water-hygiene awareness

• Fire-door inspection awareness

• Manual handling

• Working at height

• PASMA or IPAF

• Full UK driving licence

Training can be provided where appropriate.

We are looking for someone who takes genuine ownership of their work and is comfortable with a varied maintenance role.

You will be someone who notices issues, takes action and follows jobs through to completion. You should be happy switching between building repairs, grounds maintenance, routine checks and reactive issues throughout the working day.

Above all, you will take pride in maintaining a safe, clean and well-presented environment and understand the importance of working within your own level of competence.
