About the Role
Westray Recruitment is recruiting experienced FLT Operatives to join a busy warehouse and logistics operation in Hartlepool.
This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity for candidates with previous warehouse and FLT experience.
Successful candidates MUST hold a valid, in-date and externally accredited Counterbalance FLT licence. Unfortunately, candidates with expired or in-house FLT licences cannot be considered for this position.
The successful candidate will support warehouse operations through the safe movement of stock, loading and unloading, pallet handling, order preparation and general operational duties.
The position will also involve physically demanding work, manual handling and the operation of specialist machinery. New starters will complete a structured training period to learn the machinery, processes, health and safety requirements and warehouse layout before progressing fully into the role.

Shift Pattern
Training Period:
During the initial training period, successful candidates will work a rotating shift pattern of:
- 06:00 to 14:00
- 14:00 to 22:00
Candidates must therefore be available to work both early and late shifts during their training period.
Following Training:
Once training has been successfully completed, candidates will move onto a continental shift pattern, working:
- 06:00 to 18:00 – Days
- 18:00 to 06:00 – Nights
Candidates must be comfortable working 12-hour day and night shifts as part of the continental rota.
Pay Rate: £14.38 per hour
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Operating a Counterbalance FLT safely and efficiently
- Loading and unloading vehicles and containers
- Moving, stacking and storing pallets within the warehouse
- Supporting goods-in and goods-out operations
- Checking stock and reporting discrepancies
- Preparing goods and pallets for dispatch
- Completing general palletising duties
- Learning and operating specialist machinery where required
- Carrying out manual handling and general warehouse duties
- Working safely within busy and potentially congested operational areas
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workplace
- Following all site procedures and health and safety requirements
- Supporting the wider warehouse operation when required
Essential Requirements
Successful applicants must have:
- A valid and in-date Counterbalance FLT licence
- An externally accredited FLT qualification issued by RTITB, ITSSAR, NPORS or another recognised external accreditation body
- Previous Counterbalance FLT experience
- Previous warehouse or logistics experience
- Experience working safely within a busy operational environment
- The ability to work the training shifts of 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00
- The ability to progress onto 12-hour continental day and night shifts
- Good attention to detail
- A reliable and responsible approach to work
- A willingness to complete manual handling and general warehouse duties
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A full and honest CV outlining employment history
Please note: In-house or expired FLT licences cannot be accepted for this position. Applicants must hold an in-date, externally accredited Counterbalance FLT licence to be considered.
A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
PPE Requirements
Operatives will be required to wear approved PPE, including:
- Safety boots
- Orange high-visibility clothing
- Bump cap
