Head of Safety, Health & Environment
North Lincolnshire
Fully Site-Based | 5 Days per Week

Elevation Recruitment Group is delighted to be supporting Singleton Birch, part of Mississippi Lime Company (MLC), to recruit a Head of Safety, Health & Environment.

MLC is a world-class producer of high-calcium lime, dolomitic lime, lime-based chemical specialties and technical solutions. With over 100 years of heritage and a strong reputation for innovation, quality and customer service, the business operates globally across multiple manufacturing and processing sites. Following the acquisition of Singleton Birch in 2022, MLC continues to invest significantly in its UK operations, sustainability initiatives and long-term growth strategy.

This newly-shaped, business-critical role represents an outstanding opportunity for an experienced SHE leader to shape and drive the UK safety, health and environmental agenda. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide both strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards of compliance while embedding a proactive and positive safety culture across the business.

This is a highly visible position, requiring an individual who can build credibility at every level of the organisation - from engaging frontline teams on the shop floor to influencing senior stakeholders and presenting at Board level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the UK SHE strategy
  • Lead, coach and develop the SHE team, driving engagement, accountability and performance
  • Champion a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across the site
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislation, permits and regulatory requirements
  • Manage and continually improve ISO management systems, including ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action plans
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulators, environmental agencies and external stakeholders
  • Lead SHE training, auditing, risk assessment and compliance programmes across the business

About You

We are seeking a credible and influential SHE professional with significant leadership experience gained within a high-hazard environment such as chemicals, oil & gas, heavy manufacturing, process industries, aggregates or quarrying.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in a senior SHE leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Experience managing and improving ISO management systems
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • The ability to drive cultural and behavioural change across an operational environment
  • A hands-on, visible leadership style with strong commercial awareness
