Carmichael UK are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join one of the UK's most prestigious infrastructure projects, playing a key role in the delivery of HS2 in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Health & Safety professional with experience overseeing large-scale earthworks and heavy civil engineering operations, working on a project that will transform the UK's transport network while ensuring safety remains at the forefront of every activity.

The Role

Working closely with operational teams, engineers and site management, you will provide proactive health and safety support across major earthworks activities, ensuring compliance with company procedures, legislation and HS2 standards.

You will be involved in the safe delivery of earthworks packages including bulk excavation, embankment construction, cut and fill operations, haul roads, material management and associated civil engineering works.

Responsibilities
  • Promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture across earthworks and site operations
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations
  • Provide health & safety support to earthworks teams, supervisors and project management
  • Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Deliver toolbox talks and health & safety briefings focused on high-risk construction activities
  • Ensure compliance with HS2, CDM and company requirements
  • Review RAMS and provide guidance to project teams undertaking earthworks and civil engineering activities
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and drive continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate records, audits and reporting documentation
  • Support management in achieving project health and safety objectives
  • Promote safe working practices around plant, lifting operations, excavations and temporary works
About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience as a Health & Safety Advisor on earthworks, highways, rail, infrastructure or major civil engineering projects
  • Strong understanding of the health & safety challenges associated with bulk earthworks, heavy plant operations, excavations and material movements
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Membership of IOSH (GradIOSH/TechIOSH desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and UK health & safety legislation
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations on live construction sites
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence operational teams and drive a positive safety culture
  • Full UK driving licence
