Plymouth
An established civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Health and Safety Advisor to support a major water infrastructure framework across the South West.
The programme covers a range of clean and wastewater projects, including reservoirs, pumping stations, pipelines and associated civil engineering works. Working closely with project and operational teams, you’ll help ensure schemes are delivered safely and in line with legislative, client and company requirements.
This is a predominantly site-based role, ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with delivery teams and providing practical, solutions-focused safety support.
The Role
As Health and Safety Advisor, you’ll work across projects throughout the framework, building strong relationships with site teams, management and key stakeholders. You’ll take an active role in improving standards, encouraging positive behaviours and identifying safer ways of working.
Responsibilities include:
- Carrying out site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring.
- Providing practical health and safety advice to site teams and managers.
- Supporting health and safety objectives across the framework.
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Providing safety input during tendering, project planning and delivery.
- Identifying improvements to systems, processes and working practices.
- Promoting safety initiatives, best practice and proactive hazard reporting.
- Undertaking Attitude, Behaviour and Culture (ABC) tours.
- Building strong relationships with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders.
You’ll have experience working as a Health and Safety Advisor, ideally within water, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure. You’ll be comfortable working on operational sites, providing practical advice and constructively challenging unsafe practices.
You’ll also bring:
- Good knowledge of current UK health and safety legislation.
- Experience within construction, utilities or infrastructure projects.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- A collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge behaviours.
- The ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent.
- Tech IOSH membership, or progression towards Graduate IOSH.
- Full UK driving licence.
You’ll join an established infrastructure business delivering significant investment in essential water assets across the South West. As Health and Safety Advisor, you’ll gain exposure to a varied portfolio of projects while having the opportunity to influence safety performance across the framework.
The package includes:
- £40,000 - £45,000 salary.
- Car / allowance.
- Company pension and healthcare benefits.
- 24-26 days annual leave.
- Retail and lifestyle discounts.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Ongoing career and professional development support.
