Health And Safety Manager

Walker & Sloan

HSE Manager

Location Hayes, London

Sector Data Centres & Mission Critical Construction

Salary £60,000 - £75,000 + Package

The Opportunity

A leading specialist contractor is looking to appoint an experienced HSE Manager to support the delivery of a major hyperscale data centre project in Hayes, West London. The scheme comprises 18 data halls of approximately 1,250m² each, delivering around 24MW of usable IT power, together with high and medium voltage energy infrastructure, backup generation, circulation routes, landscaping and dedicated visitor facilities.

You will become a key part of the project leadership team, helping to create a safe, compliant and high-performing construction environment. This is a hands-on role where your influence will be felt across site operations, workforce engagement, assurance, incident prevention and continuous improvement.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for supporting the project team in implementing robust health, safety and environmental standards across all construction activities. You will spend your time out on site as well as working closely with project leadership, reviewing risk assessments and method statements, monitoring high-risk activities and ensuring legal, client and company requirements are being consistently met.

You will carry out inspections, audits and behavioural observations, ensuring actions are closed out properly rather than simply recorded. Where incidents or near misses occur, you will support investigations, help identify root causes and make sure corrective actions lead to measurable improvement.

A major part of the role will be engagement. You will deliver inductions, toolbox talks and workforce briefings, work closely with subcontractors and help create a culture where people take ownership of safety. You will also support statutory inspections, project assurance activities and the ongoing development of HSE processes across a technically complex mission-critical environment.

About You

You are an experienced construction HSE professional who is comfortable operating on large, fast-paced projects and engaging with everyone from site operatives through to senior management and client representatives. You have previously monitored high-risk activities, undertaken audits and inspections and supported incident investigations and corrective action programmes.

You understand how ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 translate into practical site controls and you are confident challenging unsafe behaviour in a professional and constructive way. MEP or data centre experience would be particularly valuable, although candidates from other technically demanding construction environments will also be considered.

You will hold a NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, IOSH membership, a Professionally Qualified Person CSCS Card and a valid UK driving licence.
