Environment, Health and Safety Officer

We are delighted to be recruiting for an exciting opportunity for an Environment, Health and Safety Officer to join an established manufacturing environment based in Banbury.

This is a key role within the HSE function, supporting the business in maintaining high standards of occupational health, safety and environmental compliance.

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the successful candidate will provide hands-on Health & Safety support across a designated manufacturing area, while also contributing to site-wide environmental and HSE initiatives.

The role would suit an experienced Health & Safety professional with strong knowledge of occupational safety management systems, hazard identification and risk assessment, who is also keen to contribute to environmental and continuous improvement activities.

The Role

As Environment, Health and Safety Officer, you will support the HSE Manager in maintaining and improving the site's Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.

You will play an important role in ensuring compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements, supporting audits and inspections, managing incidents and corrective actions, and promoting a positive safety culture across the business.

The role will also provide the opportunity to take ownership of specific site-wide initiatives depending on your skills and experience, which may include COSHH, REACH, ergonomics, loss prevention, Legionella or DSEAR.

Key Responsibilities

• Support compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
• Develop and maintain risk assessments and safe systems of work, ensuring effective hazard identification and appropriate controls.
• Manage incident reporting, including injuries, ill health, near misses and reportable incidents.
• Analyse incident trends and support corrective and preventative actions.
• Conduct workplace audits and inspections and identify areas requiring improvement.
• Monitor outstanding HSE actions and ensure completion within agreed timescales.
• Support the site's ergonomics programme, including assessments and process improvements.
• Monitor and promote PPE compliance across the designated manufacturing area.
• Support Management of Change and contribute to developing a positive safety culture.
• Assist with the Emergency Response Plan and emergency drills.
• Deliver and support Health & Safety training.
• Escalate faulty or unsafe equipment to Maintenance/Facilities and support appropriate corrective action.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and CIP projects, including environmental and HSE initiatives.
• Maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers and departments across the business, while taking ownership of relevant site-wide initiatives such as COSHH, REACH, ergonomics, loss prevention, Legionella or DSEAR.

About You

• Strong Health & Safety knowledge and experience, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Excellent understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and safe systems of work.
• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent.
• Understanding of environmental management principles.
• Experience working with Health & Safety management systems.
• Organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work effectively across the business.
• Confident problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Strong continuous improvement and safety mindset.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

• ISO 45001 Internal or Lead Auditor experience and/or ISO 14001 Internal or Lead Auditor experience.
• Environmental qualification and experience with COSHH, REACH, DSEAR, Legionella, ergonomics or loss prevention.
• Experience supporting emergency response plans and drills and delivering Health & Safety training.
• Knowledge of MAFACT internal training would be advantageous.

What's on Offer

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.

Position and hours: Full-time, permanent position; 37.5-hour working week, Monday to Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm and Friday 8:00am - 1:30pm.

Start: Immediate/ASAP start.
