Health & Safety Advisor – Kilmarnock

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a new civil engineering project in Kilmarnock on a 12-month contract, with a start date at the beginning of October.
This is a fully site-based position suited to a practical and proactive H&S professional who is confident working within a live construction environment and maintaining high standards across site.
The role will focus on monitoring, policing and maintaining health and safety standards, ensuring that site activities are being carried out safely and in accordance with agreed procedures and legislation.
You will work closely with the site management team, subcontractors and workforce, providing advice and guidance while identifying and addressing any areas of concern.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety checks.
- Monitor construction activities and ensure safe working practices are being followed.
- Review and monitor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Identify unsafe practices and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor subcontractors and site personnel to ensure compliance with site H&S requirements.
- Provide practical H&S advice and guidance to the site team.
- Support toolbox talks, briefings and other site safety initiatives.
- Record and report safety observations, incidents and areas requiring improvement.
- Assist with incident investigations where required.
- Ensure site procedures and relevant health and safety legislation are being followed.
- Work alongside site management to maintain a safe, well-managed and compliant working environment.
Requirements:
- NEBOSH qualification – essential.
- Previous experience working in a construction or civil engineering site-based H&S role.
- Strong understanding of construction health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Experience with site inspections, audits, RAMS and contractor monitoring.
- Confident communicating with site management, subcontractors and operatives.
- Comfortable challenging unsafe working practices and ensuring issues are dealt with promptly.
- IOSH membership – desirable. Previous civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction project experience would be advantageous.
