We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Health and Safety professional / Manager respond to respond to requests from clients and provide Health and Safety advice and supervise a team of three H&S professionals.

As an Education Health & Safety Auditor, you will act as a trusted advisor to schools, colleges, and multi-academy trusts (MATs). Operating strictly within the 39 weeks of the academic year, your primary focus will be conducting comprehensive on-site health, safety audits. You will bridge the gap between complex statutory regulations and the practical, day-to-day realities of an educational environment, empowering school leaders to maintain a safe environment for staff, pupils, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
1. On-Site Auditing & Compliance Tracking
  • Conduct rigorous health and safety audits, workplace inspections, and estate walk-throughs across primary, secondary, and special education settings.
  • Audit and review school-specific policies, risk assessments, and statutory training logs (including safeguarding and first aid).
  • Evaluate critical estate compliance folders, including Fire Risk Assessments, Asbestos Management plans, Legionella/water safety testing, and COSHH logs.
  • Assess high-risk educational spaces, specifically Design & Technology (D&T) workshops, science laboratories, art studios, and PE facilities against industry standards (e.g., CLEAPSS, D&T Association).
2. Reporting & Action Planning
  • Produce clear, pragmatic, data-driven audit reports utilising the consultancy’s digital compliance software.
  • Translate findings into realistic, prioritized risk-mitigation action plans that school business managers and headteachers can easily execute.
  • Identify trend data across multi-academy trusts to help senior leadership teams strategically allocate safety resources.
3. Advisory Support & Relationship Management
  • Provide competent, friendly, and practical face-to-face advice to school leaders, demystifying health and safety legislation (e.g., HASAWA 1974, Management Regulations 1999).
  • Debrief Headteachers and Governors immediately post-audit, highlighting major wins and addressing immediate, high-priority safety risks.
  • Assist school staff in understanding step-by-step risk assessment methodologies for daily activities, wrap-around care, and educational visits.
Person Specification

Attribute Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Qualifications * NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent Level 3 safety qualification).
* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD). * NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent Level 6).
* Fire Risk Assessor qualification.
* TechIOSH / GradIOSH membership. Experience * Specific experience working within or consulting for the UK education sector (Schools/Academies).

* Proven track record of managing multiple client sites or complex buildings. * Minimum of 2–3 years of experience conducting physical health and safety audits.
* Experience using compliance management apps. Skills & Knowledge * Robust understanding of UK statutory building compliance (Fire, Asbestos, Legionella).
* High-level digital proficiency for remote, software-based report writing. * Specialized knowledge of school-specific environments (e.g., school playground safety standards, science lab regulations). Personal Attributes * Exceptional communication skills—ability to advise firmly but empathetically without sounding overly academic or bureaucratic.
* Strong time-management skills to balance regional travel with prompt report delivery. * A genuinely collaborative, peer-to-peer approach to problem-solving with school staff. Mandatory Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS Check: Due to regular, unaccompanied travel into educational environments, the successful candidate must pass a clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle for regional site visits.
