The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a Tier 1 MEP contractor working on a major data centre project in Brent Cross, North London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health & Safety professional to join a high-performing project team and play a key role in maintaining and continuously improving health and safety standards across a complex, fast-paced MEP construction environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of construction health and safety, ideally gained working for an M&E/MEP contractor, and will be confident engaging with site management, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and the wider workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional, practical and proactive health and safety advice to the project team.
- Support the implementation and continual improvement of the project's Health & Safety Management System.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and behavioural observations, identifying hazards and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures, RAMS and project-specific requirements.
- Review and provide guidance on Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Monitor and report on health and safety performance, producing relevant reports and recommendations for the project management team.
- Work closely with site management and MEP supervisors to promote a strong and positive safety culture.
- Deliver and support site inductions, toolbox talks, briefings and safety training.
- Monitor the activities of subcontractors and ensure appropriate standards of health and safety are maintained.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to project health and safety initiatives.
- Provide advice on high-risk construction activities, including lifting operations, work at height, temporary works, electrical/mechanical installation activities and plant and equipment.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and other applicable UK health and safety legislation.
- Promote continual improvement and a proactive approach to safety throughout the project.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, training, incidents and corrective actions.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in construction health and safety.
- Previous experience working for a main contractor, Tier 1 contractor or M&E/MEP contractor is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits and safety investigations.
- Experience reviewing RAMS and providing practical safety advice.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with people at all levels of an organisation.
- A proactive and hands-on approach to health and safety.
- The ability to work effectively within a busy project environment and manage competing priorities.
- Good report-writing and organisational skills.
- A professional and collaborative approach to working with project teams and subcontractors.
Desirable
- Previous experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial or other technically complex construction projects.
- Experience working specifically within MEP construction.
- NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent higher-level H&S qualification.
- Experience working within a Tier 1 construction environment.
- Familiarity with major client-led health and safety standards and assurance processes.
- Experience with large-scale mechanical and electrical installation projects.
