Our client is looking to recruit an experienced HGV / LGV Mechanic Technician to take responsibility for the servicing, maintenance and repair of their commercial vehicle fleet.
The company operates a fleet of approximately 50 vehicles, with the split being around 60% HGVs and 40% LGVs, and they are looking for a skilled and dependable technician who can help ensure the fleet remains safe, compliant and operational.
The Role
You will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the company’s commercial vehicle fleet, including:
- Servicing, maintenance and repairs across HGV and LGV vehicles
- Carrying out routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Completing PMI and safety inspections
- Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out defect rectification
- Preparing HGVs and LGVs for MOT and DVSA inspections
- Ensuring vehicles are maintained to the required DVSA roadworthiness standards
- Checking key areas including brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, lights and general vehicle condition
- Identifying and rectifying defects ahead of MOT presentation
- Maintaining accurate service and inspection records
- Helping minimise vehicle downtime and ensuring the fleet remains safe and compliant
- Assisting with the servicing, maintenance and repair of forklift trucks where required
The Candidate
We are looking for an experienced commercial vehicle technician with a strong background working on HGVs.
You should have:
- Current IRTEC qualification – essential
- Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician
- Strong experience carrying out HGV servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Experience with MOT preparation and pre-MOT inspections
- Good knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle roadworthiness requirements
- Experience carrying out PMI / preventative maintenance inspections
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience working on both HGV and LGV vehicles would be advantageous
- Previous experience servicing or maintaining forklift trucks would be highly advantageous
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the condition and compliance of a commercial fleet
You do not need to be an authorised MOT tester, but you must have strong experience inspecting and preparing commercial vehicles to the required standard before they are presented for MOT.
