Higher Level Teaching Assistant – KS2

Location: Colindale, Barnet
Salary: £120–£125 per day
Days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Contract: Part-time, long-term temporary

A large, inclusive community primary school in Colindale is seeking a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work predominantly across Years 5 and 6.

This varied position combines pupil support with regular whole-class cover. The successful candidate must feel comfortable stepping into a Year 6 classroom, delivering planned lessons and managing pupils independently.

Responsibilities

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support teaching and learning across Years 5 and 6.
• Deliver planned lessons and provide whole-class cover.
• Keep pupils engaged, focused and ready to learn.
• Manage classroom routines and behaviour confidently.
• Provide targeted individual and small-group support.
• Work closely with KS2 teachers and the wider school team.

Requirements

The school is looking for someone with:

• Strong experience working in KS2.
• Confidence leading a class independently.
• Good knowledge of the KS2 curriculum.
• Effective and consistent behaviour-management skills.
• A calm, assertive and resilient approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.

The Year 6 cohort includes some lively personalities who may occasionally test boundaries. Behaviour is not extreme, but the successful candidate must be comfortable addressing low-level disruption calmly and promptly.
