Highways Projects Supervisor
Location: East Sussex (1x Newhaven, 2x Eastbourne)
Contract Duration: 1st September 2026 - 1st March 2027 (Initial 6-month contract with potential for extension)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday (Full-time, 100% site-based with potential office visits approx. 1 day every 3 weeks; occasional weekend/night work paid as overtime if required)
About the Role
We are seeking 3 x Highways Projects Supervisors to manage minor highways and infrastructure improvement schemes across East Sussex.
You will lead site delivery, setting operatives and subcontractors to work safely, managing daily progress, and ensuring high quality on multiple concurrent projects. Key upcoming schemes include a bus lane improvement project in Newhaven, alongside minor highway works, surfacing, lining, and footpath widening in Eastbourne.
Training and full site preparation will take place prior to project start dates.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe Delivery & Setting People to Work: Lead daily task briefings, review RAMS, manage permits (including permit-to-dig), check competency, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Project Delivery & Resource Coordination: Oversee daily labor, plant, materials, and temporary traffic management. Keep accurate daily records, photographs, and production details.
- Quality & Right-First-Time Execution: Conduct quality checks, manage hold points, identify/resolve defects early, and support as-built handovers.
- Stakeholder & Public Interface: Maintain professional communication with site teams, supply chain partners, local authorities, and members of the public.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Supervisory Certification: SSSTS or SMSTS (or equivalent).
- Site Cards: Valid CSCS card aligned with a supervisory role.
- Street Works: NRSWA Supervisor accreditation.
- Safety & Underground Services: EUSR Safe Digging / CAT & Genny / Service Avoidance competence.
- Highways Experience: Proven background supervising live public highway works, including excavation, reinstatement, surfacing, kerbing, paving, drainage, and civils.
- Traffic Management: Familiarity with temporary traffic management implementation.
- Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence.
