HLTA - SEMH Unit | SEN School, Beverley
Temp to Permanent | ASAP Start
Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEN school in Beverley.
You will work within a small, supportive unit of just 6 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a temp-to-permanent opportunity with an immediate start, offering the chance to make a real difference in a calm, nurturing environment.
The Role
As HLTA you will:
- Support high-quality teaching and learning within a small SEMH unit of 6 students
- Deliver targeted interventions and small-group or 1:1 support under the direction of the class teacher
- Help create a calm, consistent and predictable environment that supports emotional regulation and engagement
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may present with complex SEMH needs
- Assist with behaviour support, de-escalation and the implementation of individual support plans
- Contribute to planning, assessment and the recording of progress
- Support the wider running of the unit, including transitions, routines and personal care where required
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Hold HLTA status or equivalent relevant experience
- Have previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, ideally in a specialist or alternative provision setting
- Demonstrate patience, resilience, consistency and a calm approach
- Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Be able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
- Have the legal right to work in the UK
Pay
Competitive hourly rate depending on experience and qualifications (details discussed at interview).
