Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive SEN school in the KT24 area, starting immediately.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HLTA or strong SEN Teaching Assistant looking to take on greater responsibility within a specialist setting.

The Role

As an HLTA, you will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to ensure pupils receive consistent, engaging and appropriate support.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting and delivering learning activities under the direction of teaching staff

  • Leading small-group and, where appropriate, whole-class activities

  • Providing targeted 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs

  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and develop independence

  • Adapting activities and resources to meet individual learning needs

  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals

  • Helping create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment

  • Monitoring pupil engagement and feeding back to teaching staff

  • Supporting pupils' social, emotional and academic development

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • An experienced HLTA, Senior TA or experienced SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Confident working within a specialist SEN environment

  • Patient, nurturing and resilient

  • Able to build positive relationships with children and young people

  • Confident taking responsibility for learning activities

  • Adaptable and able to respond calmly to different needs and situations

  • A strong team player with excellent communication skills

  • Passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs

Experience supporting pupils with ASC, complex needs, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD or challenging behaviour would be advantageous.

Essential Requirements

  • DBS on the Update Service (UDS) – essential

  • Right to Work in the UK – essential

  • Must not require sponsorship

  • Previous experience working with children/young people, ideally within an SEN setting

  • Available for an immediate start
