Housing Standards Officer

 Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Elmbridge Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience

We are looking for a Housing Standards Officer this role will be based at: KT10 9SD,
Week 1: 100% in office - Week 2 onwards: 2 days remote, 3 days district/office

The right candidate will:

• To deal with requests and complaints from members of the public about poor housing conditions, investigate and take appropriate action, including; property inspections, Identifying defects and hazards, statutory nuisances & overcrowding
• Provide guidance and oversight for complex cases while allowing the Property Standards and Empty Homes Officer to act as the operational lead for empty homes projects.
• To promote and monitor minimum standards in Houses in Multiple Occupation and administer the Council’s HMO Licensing Scheme including; Identification and maintenance of HMO database, inspection and regular monitoring of HMO dwellings and dealing with enquiries and applications for HMO licences
• To assist in the management and administration of the Private Sector Housing IT system including the inputting of records, updating of records and producing regular reports for personal casework monitoring and monitoring and measuring team performance. Assist with the security, set up and implementation of system upgrades.

We require the following:

• Experience of using environmental health housing legislation tools to resolve poor housing standards and deal with empty homes.
• Experience of working within an Environmental Health Residential sector or working within an organisation dealing with Housing Standards and HMO Licensing related matters
• Experience of surveying dwellings for defects and adaptations.
