Brough · Contract
Location: Brough
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 per annum DOE
Contract: 3 to 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Consortium Professional Recruitment are pleased to be partnering with an established manufacturing business to recruit an experienced HSE Advisor for a 3 to 6 month fixed-term contract. This is a practical, site-based opportunity focused on making meaningful improvements to workplace safety, operational procedures and risk management.
This is not a desk-based compliance role. We're looking for someone who enjoys being boots on the ground, working alongside shop floor operators, engineers and supervisors to understand how tasks are actually performed. You'll spend time in operational areas reviewing, amending and writing risk assessments, challenging outdated procedures and helping teams develop safe, practical ways of working.
The Opportunity: As an HSE Advisor, you'll play a key role in:
- Risk Assessments: Take a hands-on approach to reviewing, updating and writing task-based risk assessments, working directly with shop floor teams to identify hazards, assess risks and implement effective controls.
- Safe Systems of Work and SOPs: Review and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), ensuring documentation accurately reflects day-to-day operations and is clear, practical and easy to follow.
- Permit to Work: Assess existing Permit to Work (PTW) arrangements, including authorisation processes, isolation requirements and documentation, identifying opportunities to strengthen controls.
- Site Audits and Inspections: Carry out practical workplace inspections across manufacturing, engineering, yard and operational areas, identifying risks, recording findings and agreeing corrective actions with relevant teams.
- Implementation and Close-Out: Work closely with managers, supervisors and operators to communicate revised procedures, prioritise improvements, track corrective actions and ensure changes are embedded into everyday working practices.
Your work will directly contribute to reducing operational risks, strengthening safety standards and leaving behind clear, accurate and usable documentation. You'll also develop a prioritised improvement register and provide a structured handover of completed actions, outstanding risks and recommended next steps.
About You: We're looking for someone who can bring:
- Practical health, safety and environmental experience gained within manufacturing, engineering, industrial or process-driven environments.
- Strong experience of writing, reviewing and updating risk assessments, with the confidence to challenge existing practices and recommend realistic improvements.
- A sound understanding of Safe Systems of Work, Standard Operating Procedures, Permit to Work processes and workplace safety audits.
- A proactive, approachable working style, with the ability to build relationships and engage effectively with shop floor operators, engineers, supervisors and management.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to turn technical safety requirements into straightforward, practical documentation.
- A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification would be advantageous, although relevant hands-on experience is equally valued.
Above all, you'll be someone who is comfortable putting on your safety boots, getting out onto the shop floor and working collaboratively with operational teams. You'll enjoy solving problems, taking ownership and seeing practical improvements through to completion.
The Benefits :
- Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Contract: 3 to 6 month fixed-term assignment.
- An opportunity to make a visible and lasting difference to workplace safety within a busy operational environment.
- A varied, hands-on assignment where your experience, ideas and practical approach will be valued.
How to Apply: This exciting HSE Advisor opportunity is being managed by Consortium Professional Recruitment, a trusted recruitment partner with a Human First approach.
If you enjoy working directly with operational teams, improving safety standards and delivering practical results, we'd love to hear from you.
