Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be supporting a leading UK manufacturing business in the search for an experienced HSE Officer to join their team based in Wakefield.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health, Safety & Environmental professional who enjoys being visible on the shop floor and driving a positive safety culture. Reporting to the Group HSE Director, you'll play a key role in supporting multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, maintaining accredited management systems and delivering continuous improvement across health, safety and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health, Safety & Environmental management systems
- Promote a positive health and safety culture through regular shop-floor engagement and coaching
- Conduct accident, incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Carry out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and assist with the development of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain compliance with HSE legislation, internal policies and company management systems
- Support the maintenance of ISO 14001 and contribute to ongoing environmental initiatives
- Conduct internal HSE audits and support external audits, ensuring departments remain audit-ready
- Manage contractor control processes and ensure safe systems of work are followed
- Deliver new starter inductions and support the development and delivery of HSE training programmes
- Manage the occupational health surveillance programme
- Monitor HSE KPIs, identify trends and implement improvement initiatives
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure corrective actions are completed effectively
- Chair and attend HSE meetings where required
- Deputise for the Group HSE Director during periods of absence
We're looking for an enthusiastic HSE professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams and has a passion for driving continuous improvement.
Ideal candidate:
- Be working towards NEBOSH Diploma/Level 6
- Previous experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within a manufacturing environment
- Experience maintaining ISO management systems, particularly ISO 14001
- Knowledge of HSE legislation and best practice
- Experience carrying out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and incident investigations
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
