Interim Deputy Head Teacher, SEMH Special School

Brava Education

Brava Education is working with a specialist school for pupils with SEMH and ASC, who need to appoint an Interim Deputy Headteacher with a Quality of Education focus.

The role

You will lead the quality of education and teaching and learning across the school, working alongside a second Deputy who holds the pastoral brief. Your remit covers curriculum structure and sequencing, foundational knowledge, assessment and progress, identifying gaps in English and maths, lesson observation, feedback and CPD.

You will line manage curriculum leaders and provide coaching and support to newer middle leaders. The role is highly visible and operational, with a focus on driving improvement, building strong relationships with staff and pupils and ensuring agreed priorities are delivered at pace.

There is no timetabled teaching commitment, although modelling and co-teaching may occasionally be required.

About you

  • Current or recent senior leadership experience in a specialist SEMH or ASC setting, at Deputy level or above.
  • Strong track record across curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning, rather than a pastoral specialist.
  • Confident and current knowledge of the new Ofsted framework.
  • Comfortable working in an improvement environment and delivering against a defined plan at pace.
  • Able to work collaboratively within an agreed leadership structure and workstream.
  • Able to build strong relationships quickly with staff and pupils.
  • Ideally available five days a week on site, although this may be negotiable for the right candidate.

Terms

Initially through to Christmas 2026, with the role then reviewed. Five days a week on site is preferred, but this may be negotiable for the right candidate.  Immediate start.

The process will begin with a Teams call, followed by a school visit, with a quick decision after that.
