A leading and well established building services engineering consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join its growing mechanical design team.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Mechanical Engineer to work on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects across sectors including commercial, residential, retail, education, and mixed-use developments. The successful candidate will become part of an experienced engineering team delivering innovative, sustainable, and high-quality mechanical building services solutions.
 
The successful candidate will have practical experience within a building services consultancy environment, with proven experience using IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) for building performance analysis, energy modelling, and thermal simulations.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
·Deliver mechanical building services designs across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, retail and educational projects.
·Develop mechanical design strategies, specifications, and technical reports.
·Design and coordinate HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems.
·Carry out mechanical calculations including heating loads, cooling loads, ventilation requirements, and equipment sizing.
·Use IESVE software to undertake energy modelling, thermal analysis, overheating assessments, daylight studies, and building performance evaluations.
·Support the development of low-carbon and energy-efficient design solutions.
·Produce and review technical drawings, schematics, and design documentation.
·Undertake site surveys, inspections and support construction-stage activities where required.
·Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry standards.
·Support junior engineers and contribute to the continued development of the engineering team.
 
Skills & Experience Required:
 
·Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
·Approximately 3-5 years' experience within a building services engineering consultancy environment.
·Proven experience designing mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, heating, cooling and ventilation.
·Hands-on experience using IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) is essential.
·Experience undertaking building energy modelling, thermal simulations and performance analysis.
·Strong understanding of sustainable design principles and low-carbon engineering solutions.
·Ability to complete mechanical calculations and produce high-quality technical documentation.
·Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.
 
Desirable Experience:
·Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or professional membership of CIBSE/IMechE.
·Experience working on complex commercial, residential or mixed-use developments.
·Knowledge of NABERS, BREEAM, Part L compliance and other sustainability frameworks.
·Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordinated design environments.
