We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and resilient Intervention Tutor, English to join an established alternative education provision in the Middlesbrough area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, experienced teaching assistant, tutor, cover supervisor or education professional who has a strong understanding of English and is confident supporting secondary-aged students with challenging behaviour and barriers to learning.

The Role:

As an Intervention Tutor, you will work closely with secondary-aged students who are accessing education within an alternative provision setting.

Your primary focus will be English intervention and supporting students to make progress with their literacy and wider learning. You will work within the classroom and provide targeted support to help students engage positively with their education.

The role will involve:

• Delivering and supporting English-focused intervention with secondary-aged students
• Supporting students to develop their literacy, reading and written communication skills
• Working with individuals and small groups where appropriate
• Building positive, professional relationships with students
• Encouraging students who may have become disengaged from mainstream education
• Managing behaviour confidently and consistently
• Establishing clear boundaries and expectations
• Working alongside teaching and support staff to identify barriers to learning
• Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment
• Supporting students' wider educational and personal development

About You:

We are looking for someone who has a genuine passion for working with young people and who can demonstrate:

• A degree-level qualification, ideally with an English, education, humanities or related background
• Previous classroom, tutoring or youth work experience
• Experience working with secondary-aged students
• Strong knowledge of English and literacy
• Excellent behaviour management skills
• Confidence supporting students who may display challenging behaviour
• The ability to remain calm, patient and consistent in difficult situations
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A resilient and positive approach

Experience working within alternative provision, SEMH, SEND, PRU or similar settings would be highly desirable.
