Junior Design Engineer in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

The Role
We are looking for an experienced Junior Design Engineer to join a precision engineering and manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will design tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures to support manufacturing processes, ensuring designs meet customer requirements and high-quality standards.

You will work closely with engineering and production teams to develop practical, accurate designs and identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design tools, dies, jigs and fixtures using CAD software.
• Produce detailed and accurate design drawings and documentation.
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
• Work closely with engineers and machinists to ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacture.
• Develop and test prototypes where required to validate design concepts.
• Identify and implement design improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
• Troubleshoot design issues and provide effective solutions.
• Consider machining processes, materials and manufacturing requirements when developing designs.
• Liaise with production and engineering teams throughout the design and manufacturing process.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing processes.

Skills & Experience

Minimum 2 years' experience in tool design or a similar engineering design role.

Proficiency using CAD software

Tooling design would be highly beneficial.

Strong understanding of machining processes and engineering materials.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to identify and resolve design and manufacturing issues.

Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering and production teams.

Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.

Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
