Hardware Design Engineer - Job Specification



Role Overview

This role is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of electronic hardware products. You will work across the full product lifecycle-from concept through to production-ensuring robust, high-quality and manufacturable solutions. The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including firmware, product, and technical support to resolve issues and deliver reliable products to market.



Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate electronic hardware assemblies and systems.
  • Produce and review electronic schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Support new product development as well as enhancements to existing designs.
  • Perform board bring-up, testing, and debugging of hardware.
  • Conduct EMC testing and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure efficient production.
  • Create and maintain technical and production documentation (e.g., schematics, BOMs, manuals).
  • Review and contribute to hardware design specifications and technical documents.
  • Investigate and resolve hardware design faults and defects.
  • Log, track, and manage issues through defect tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with firmware, product engineering, and support teams to troubleshoot customer issues.
  • Replicate field issues and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Assist in building and configuring test and compliance fixtures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.


Skills & Experience Required



Essential

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electronic hardware design.
  • Strong expertise in schematic capture and PCB layout design.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware debugging and fault finding.
  • Experience with EMC testing and compliance standards.
  • Ability to review and produce technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.


Desirable

  • Experience with electronic security or similar embedded products.
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer, ORCAD or similar CAD tools.
  • Broader knowledge of electronic and mechanical design principles.
  • Experience using issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
