Turner Lovell
Lead Protection & Control Engineer - Transmission
Location: Remote / Home-based with occasional office attendance
Contract: 12 months initial
Rate: £850/day PAYE Umbrella
Turner Lovell is recruiting for an experienced Lead Protection & Control Engineer to support a major UK transmission operator delivering a growing portfolio of high-voltage infrastructure projects.
This is an opportunity to work across multiple transmission projects, providing technical P&C engineering input and assurance from early development through to project delivery. The position will suit an experienced Protection & Control Engineer who can combine strong technical design knowledge with the ability to review, challenge and provide assurance over third-party engineering solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide Protection & Control engineering support across multiple electricity transmission projects.
- Assess and define technical scope requirements during project development.
- Review and technically assess third-party detailed designs during delivery, predominantly covering P&C panel and scheme designs.
- Support the configuration and application of protection and control equipment in line with project and scheme requirements.
- Calculate and prepare protection settings for implementation.
- Review and adjudicate contractor Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for new-build and retrofit P&C equipment.
- Work within multidisciplinary project teams to identify, assess and manage engineering risks.
- Critically review technical solutions and provide engineering input to support project and technical decision-making.
- Take ownership of engineering deliverables and ensure outputs are delivered in line with project programmes.
- Contribute to the development of digital design capabilities and greater standardisation of P&C schemes.
Key experience:
- HNC/HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong experience within Protection & Control engineering for electricity transmission projects.
- Technical knowledge of P&C application and specification, panel design and scheme design.
- Experience calculating and preparing protection settings.
- Experience reviewing or assessing engineering designs produced by contractors, consultants or other third parties.
- The technical confidence to challenge designs, identify engineering risks and assess different technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex engineering matters clearly to project and technical stakeholders.
This role offers exposure across project development and delivery rather than being focused solely on detailed design, making it particularly relevant for experienced P&C engineers looking to work in a broader project engineering and technical assurance capacity.
