We are recruiting for a Lead Hydraulic Engineer on a full time and permanent basis in Burton on Trent.

Salary: £30-38,000 per annum DOE (plus overtime)

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day
  • Onsite or offsite work as required
  • Reasonable overtime may be required and must be approved by the line manager before being worked


About the Role

The Lead Hydraulic Engineer role is a hands-on position involving the maintenance, servicing, repair, manufacture, installation and commissioning of hydraulic equipment and systems, both onsite at customer premises and within the company workshop.



Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing and breakdown repairs of hydraulic equipment.
  • Manufacture new hydraulic systems and machines, including cylinder refurbishments.
  • Support installation, commissioning, field troubleshooting and fault-finding activities.
  • Provide technical advice to customers on the operation and routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepare service, technical and job reports on product or customer issues when required.
  • Provide telephone technical support to customers as needed.
  • Offer technical direction, leadership and support to the engineering team.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new products, services and features.
  • Ensure engineering processes are followed, and product and service quality is maintained.
  • Order materials and parts in a timely and organised manner to support smooth job progress.
  • Train and mentor service personnel through formal instruction and practical onsite training.
  • Attend project meetings and communicate updates to relevant team members.
  • Maintain accurate records, complete service reports and submit timesheets in line with company policy.
  • Observe and promote basic health and safety procedures in the workshop and on customer sites.


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical or hydraulic discipline.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, hydraulic systems and engineering processes.
  • Excellent technical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience managing, supervising or leading an engineering team is desirable.

The successful candidate will also provide engineering leadership, mentor junior engineers, support the development of new products and services, and help improve engineering processes, quality standards and operational efficiency.
