Overview
We're looking for a Lead Engineer to join us at a genuinely hands-on level while owning backend architecture across the business. This isn't a lead role that's drifted away from the code — you'll be writing production code, leading technical spikes, and setting the standard for quality, while also owning the architecture for our backend services and integration layer (think ERP platforms, in-house systems, and third-party SaaS).
Responsibilities
- Write production code, lead technical spikes, and set the standard for quality
- Own the architecture for backend services and the integration layer across ERP platforms, in-house systems and third-party SaaS
- Define standards for APIs, webhooks, event-driven patterns and data flows across the business
- Lead and mentor engineers working across Python and .NET
- Champion pragmatic, responsible use of AI tooling (Claude Code, Codex or similar) to boost velocity and code quality
- Partner with Product, QA and business stakeholders to turn requirements into solid technical solutions
- Drive best practice on code review, testing, and technical debt management
Skills
- Proven experience as a lead or senior engineer, deep hands-on in Python or .NET
- Strong backend background — REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven architecture, system integrations
- Experience integrating ERP platforms, in-house tools and SaaS applications
- Solid SQL and data modelling skills
- Comfortable in AWS or Azure, with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices
- A real point of view on using AI coding tools responsibly and effectively
- Strong communicator — able to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
- Bonus: Terraform or infrastructure-as-code experience, or a background in a platform or service-based business
Salary: Up to £100,000 base
Location: Hybrid — 1-2 days per week onsite
