Your Responsibilities as a Learning Disability Support Worker

In this vital health and social care role, you will support children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, helping to enhance their wellbeing, independence and quality of life.

Your key duties will include:

• Providing direct care, practical assistance and emotional support to individuals with a range of learning disabilities and associated needs
• Supporting individuals who may display behaviours that challenge, using appropriate de-escalation techniques to manage situations calmly and safely
• Supporting daily living activities, including personal routines, meal preparation, appointments and community engagement
• Encouraging independence, choice, dignity and participation in everyday activities
• Maintaining accurate digital care plans, daily notes, incident reports and risk assessments
• Promoting safeguarding and ensuring individuals are protected from harm and neglect
• Working collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, social workers and multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) to achieve positive outcomes
• Following individual support plans, risk assessments, medication procedures and organisational policies

Essential Requirements for This Support Worker Role

To be successful in this position, you will need:

• A minimum of 12 months' experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities or complex care needs
• Experience supporting people who may present with behaviours that challenge
• Experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults and/or children
• Confidence using digital care systems for documentation and reporting
• Excellent communication skills with a calm, patient and empathetic approach
• A current PMVA certificate or equivalent recognised training
• Eligibility to work in the UK, with appropriate Right to Work documentation
• A commitment to delivering person-centred care and promoting dignity and independence

Desirable Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
• NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities or a related field
• Previous experience working within community care, supported living, residential care or specialist healthcare settings
• Additional training in autism, positive behaviour support, safeguarding, medication or mental health
