M&E Divisional Director

James Lewis Recruitment

M&E Divisional Director

London & Outlying Regions | Data Centre Critical Infrastructure | Permanent

£120,000 - £130,000 + executive package

Package to include car allowance, bonus, 25 days holiday, pension, private healthcare and additional company benefits.

This is a role for a Divisional Director who can take ownership of a projects division, not just oversee delivery from a distance.

You will be leading a division delivering critical infrastructure projects across live data centre and technical environments, with a focus on electrical upgrades, switchgear, UPS systems, generator infrastructure, LV distribution and associated project works. Project values will typically range from £1m to £10m, with multiple contracts running across London and the surrounding regions.

The division needs someone who can bring commercial control, operational discipline, client development and leadership together. You will be responsible for the performance of the division: sales, margin, risk, programme, delivery, compliance, people and customer satisfaction.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to manage the projects already in front of them. You will be expected to shape how the division grows, how projects are governed, how teams perform and how existing client relationships are developed into further work.

You will be working with senior leadership, contract managers, project managers, commercial teams, engineers, supervisors, supply chain partners and key clients. The job needs someone who can operate at board-facing level while still understanding what is happening on site.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will take overall responsibility for the operational, commercial and financial performance of the division.
  • You will lead the delivery of a portfolio of critical infrastructure projects across data centre and live technical environments.
  • You will manage and develop Contract Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and wider delivery teams.
  • You will oversee projects involving switchgear upgrades, UPS systems, generator systems, LV infrastructure, shutdowns, live-environment works, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • You will make sure contracts are delivered safely, profitably and in line with contractual, statutory and client obligations.
  • You will own divisional forecasting, cost control, sales, gross profit, risk, margin, applications, variations and financial reporting.
  • You will work with senior leadership to develop strategic objectives, divisional growth plans, KPIs, governance processes and performance reporting.
  • You will identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve margin, reduce cost and develop additional works from existing clients.
  • You will maintain and grow strong client relationships, acting as a senior point of contact across key accounts.
  • You will oversee contract execution plans, pre-contract deliverables, mobilisation, delivery, change control, defects, retention, handover and final close-out.
  • You will make sure supply chain and subcontractor performance is properly managed against programme, quality, safety, commercial and KPI requirements.
  • You will ensure company systems, records, data, reporting and documentation are maintained properly across the division.
  • You will drive compliance across HSQE, commercial controls, statutory requirements, contract governance and internal procedures.
  • You will contribute to resource planning, succession planning, team development and performance management.
  • You will create a high-performing division where people know what is expected, are properly supported and are held accountable.

What you’ll need

  • You will need experience as a Divisional Director, Operations Director, Projects Director, Contracts Director, Senior Contracts Manager or Head of Projects within M&E, critical infrastructure, data centres or technical building services.
  • You should have strong mechanical, electrical or M&E project delivery experience, ideally across live data centres, critical environments, power infrastructure, commercial upgrades, healthcare, pharmaceutical, banking, industrial or other controlled environments.
  • Critical infrastructure knowledge is important. Experience with switchgear, UPS systems, generators, LV distribution, shutdowns, live services, testing, commissioning and handover would be highly relevant.
  • You will need proven experience managing multiple projects, contract managers, delivery teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • You should be commercially strong, with the ability to manage forecasting, applications, variations, cost control, gross margin, risk, revenue generation and contract close-out.
  • You will need to understand contract administration, project governance, statutory compliance, HSQE requirements and commercial controls.
  • You should be comfortable working in an SME environment where leaders need broad business awareness rather than narrow corporate responsibility.
  • You will need the ability to build client relationships, identify additional work opportunities and represent the business properly at senior level.
  • You should be confident with business systems, reporting and project controls. SharePoint, Dynamics CRM, Asta Powerproject, Excel, Anaplan, document management systems or similar platforms would all be relevant.
  • A construction, engineering, electrical, building services or project management qualification would be useful.
  • SMSTS, IOSH, CSCS and a full driving licence would be expected.

Why this role

This is a chance to lead and grow a division in one of the strongest areas of the building services market.

The work is not standard commercial M&E. You will be operating in live data centre and critical infrastructure environments where downtime, permits, sequencing, commissioning and client confidence matter.

You will have proper control over divisional performance: revenue, margin, delivery, people, compliance, client relationships and growth.

For someone who has already operated as a senior contracts or projects leader and is ready to step into a genuine divisional role, this is a strong move.
