Machinist

We’re recruiting a Machinist to join a leading manufacturing and rolling‑mill operation in Shropshire. This Machinist role is ideal for someone who enjoys precision engineering, machine operation, and working with modern grinding equipment. As a Machinist, you’ll play a key part in maintaining accuracy, safety and quality across a busy production environment.

The Machinist will operate grinding and machining equipment, support production teams and carry out essential measurement and inspection tasks. This Machinist position runs on a four‑shift rotation of two days and two nights, with 4 days off. We welcome applications from anyone with experience as a Machinist, Machine Operator, CNC Machine Setter, Grinder, Cylindrical Grinder or Surface Grinder.

The Machinist will use micrometers, verniers and dial indicators to check dimensions and finish, and log data through digital HMIs.

Structured Training Programme

You will receive a detailed, multi‑stage training programme designed to take you from competent operator to advanced grinder/machinist. Training includes:

• Grinding fundamentals and machine components
• Roll geometry, measurement and surface‑finish control
• Wheel selection, dressing and abrasive‑wheel safety
• Defect recognition (chatter, burns, spirals, scratches)
• Coolant control and process stability
• Troubleshooting, parameter optimisation and continuous improvement
