Maintenance Assistant

Pay: £20.00 per hour
We're recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to support a busy student accommodation site in Central Cambridge. This is a hands-on role where you'll help ensure the building remains safe, well-maintained and welcoming for students and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general building fabric maintenance tasks.
- Complete basic painting and decorating to maintain communal areas and accommodation.
- Repair and replace door locks, handles and other fixtures.
- Change light bulbs and complete minor electrical replacements (where appropriate).
- Undertake basic plumbing repairs such as replacing taps and fixing minor leaks.
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct routine inspections and report any defects or maintenance issues.
- Assist with room turnarounds and general upkeep of the accommodation.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with health and safety procedures.
- Support the wider facilities team with general maintenance duties as required.
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Assistant, Handyman, Fabric Engineer, Caretaker, Multi-Skilled Operative or in a similar maintenance role.
- Competent carrying out a range of basic building fabric repairs.
- Good knowledge of painting, carpentry, basic plumbing and general maintenance tasks.
- Reliable, proactive and able to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional approach when interacting with residents and colleagues.
